Tasmanian Manuka Honey Bio Active (Unrated) 500g

The therapeutic benefits of manuka honey are reflected by the presence of MGO (Methylglyoxal).

This is the lab standard rating that detects compounds in honey that is bioactive. This manuka honey is raw and unfiltered and contains small amounts of MGO.

Ben’s Bees also stocks Tasmanian Manuka honey rated at 30+mg/kg.

Tasmanian manuka honey is collected from the Tasmanian tea tree, Leptospermum Scoparium. It is famous for its antimicrobial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, which are the result of a substance called methylglyoxal which naturally occurs in the honey. The methylglyoxal content of our honey is independently tested and is known to be a more accurate measure of manuka’s healing properties than the UMF rating often used in relation to New Zealand manuka honey.

When manuka is active, the honey contains very powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties that ordinary honey does not have, which makes it extremely effective when treating a wide variety of health conditions.

These properties are not chemically added but grow naturally, the reason this happens to some Manuka and not others remains unknown.

Because of the antimicrobial activity present in Manuka honey, it enhances wound healing in a variety of ways.

Manuka Honey has the ability to provide a moist, sterile environment for tissue re-growth which can enhance tissue formation that may have been previously damaged, destroys bacteria by providing glucose used by white blood cells, provides a natural barrier between the wound and the dressing, which protects the wound when re-dressed, which creates an anti-inflammatory effect to prevent the wound from infection. Do remember that eating Manuka honey has massive internal health benefits.

What is the difference between Active and Non-Active?

Both Non-Active and Active Manuka honey is collected from the flower of the Manuka Bush.

Non-active manuka honey is milder in taste than active manuka honey and does not contain the strong amount of medicinal properties that the active Manuka does.

Non-active manuka honey can be used to treat sore throats, colds, fever, blisters, acne, pimples and in regular cooking.

Active manuka honey, which is stronger in taste and has a higher level of medicinal properties, can treat a lot more ailments. Active Manuka honey can be used externally on first, second, third-degree and chemical burns, wounds, open and infected wounds, wounds that won’t heal, amputation stump and post-operative wounds, diabetic ulcers, sores, bed and leg sores, scars, post-operative scar wound healing, insect stings and bites, poison oak and poison ivy, minor cuts, scratches and abrasions, and acne. Active Manuka honey can also be used internally (Gastro-Intestinal Disorders, such as Acid Reflux, Esophagus Ulcer, Heartburn, up-set Stomach, Stomach Ulcer, H. Pylori (helicobacter pylori), Gastritis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
