Pure Beeswax Foundation Sheets (Full Depth)

Our pressed foundation beeswax sheets are great for beekeepers and a quick way to make a beeswax candle at home: no melting, no moulds, no mess. Warm the sheet in your hands for a minute, lay a wick along one edge and roll it up tight. That’s it! Even kids can do it, and you’ll all smell like honey while you’re working.

For beekeepers it’s the traditional job: a clean sheet of wax foundation gives the bees a straight, even start so they draw out comb where you want it instead of where they fancy.

Rolling a candle with one sheet

Lay the sheet on a clean bench with the long edge toward you. If it’s cool and stiff, a hair dryer on low or a few minutes in a warm room makes it pliable. Place a cotton wick along the near edge with a couple of centimetres sticking out the top, fold the wax over it once and press it down, then roll firmly and evenly to the end. Press the final edge in with your thumb to seal it. One full sheet gives you a tall straight taper. Cut the sheet corner to corner first, and you get two tapered candles instead.

Using foundation in the hive

Fit the sheet into a wired frame and embed the wires with a spur embedder or a wire embedding tool; then the frame’s ready for the box. Bees take to real wax faster than plastic foundation, and there’s no coating to wear off.
